ModaLisboa, Sangue Novo
Sangue Novo is, in its genesis, a platform for attracting and communicating new talents in Fashion. But today’s industry challenges add an unprecedented dimension and demand to the Young Designers Competition.
It is imperative to train, encourage and support creators with a distinct and relevant conceptual identity, technical skill and visual culture with the potential to stand out in the market. But this fertile creative territory can no longer exist without the transversal presence of sustainable criteria, whether in the materials selection or in the manufacturing processes. The new generation of talent can be the answer to the climate crisis, and it is this generation that Associação ModaLisboa is looking for.
Applications for the new edition of Sangue Novo are open until July 19th, and all the information and competition rules are available here.
The contest has the same structure as in previous editions, but has new awards, a new panel of judges and new textile partnerships: Calvelex/Fabrics4Fashion, RDD Textiles and Riopele will provide selected competitors with materials to produce their collections.
In the first phase of Sangue Novo, the jury will select up to ten projects that best meet the criteria of creativity, innovation, sustainability, concept, research, design, silhouettes, selection of colors and materials. The jury panel, composed by Miguel Flor (President), Joana Jorge (Project Manager, Associação ModaLisboa), João Magalhães (Fashion Designer) and Adriano Batista (Editor-in-Chief, Fucking Young!), will accompany the creation process of the collections that will be revealed at Lisbon Fashion Week, in October. On the day of the show, other names will join the jury — among them Ana Tavares (CEO, RDD Textiles) and a representative of IED – Istituto Europeo di Design — to elect the five finalists who will present, after several mentoring sessions, new collections in March 2024. It is at this Lisbon Fashion Week show that the winners of Sangue Novo will be announced.
The competition’s final awards were designed to strengthen the training of young Fashion Designers for the current market context, in three key areas: innovative and responsible production processes, brand management and communication. They assert themselves as necessary tools for building projects for the future that are solid, differentiating and capable of creating a real positive impact.
