First, because it has become particularly difficult: more tools, more information, more possibilities, a horizon so vast that our attention can never fully encompass it. But beyond that, choosing means deciding what deserves to remain, knowing that other paths will inevitably be left unexplored.

For us, what deserves to remain is the ability to transform thought into a singular language, to build identity through culture and to create value that extends beyond function or novelty. What matters to us is this profoundly human intelligence, bringing together the discipline of research and method with creative freedom and artistic expression.

Against the contemporary fascination with efficiency, our priority may not be the coolest or the most widely shared. To speak of experimentation or sustainability can feel like drawing on a vocabulary the present has been quick to replace, yet the reasons they remain necessary are unchanged. We continue to believe that Fashion should approach with purpose the resources and processes it mobilises, the people and knowledge it brings together, and the economic realities of creators, teams and organisations that need viable conditions to continue researching, working and creating. The longevity we seek extends across the object, the ways in which it is made and the entire ecosystem around it, including the conditions that allow that ecosystem to endure. It is also a question of time, and of giving it its proper measure, because talent does not mature under the constant pressure of urgency.

From 7 to 11 October, MODALISBOA PRIORITY presented by OMODA & JAECOO, co-organised with the Municipality of Lisbon and supported by Turismo de Portugal’s Portugal Events programme, unfolds across the city. OMODA & JAECOO returns as main sponsor of the capital’s Fashion Week, reinforcing a shared vision in which innovation cannot exist without purpose, and in which fertile ground for creativity and responsible design is itself the result of conscious choice.

With Pátio da Galé as its main venue, the programme extends to spaces including MUDE – Design Museum, Royal Treasure Museum, Moldo Studios and National Society of Fine Arts. Across these venues, the 67th Lisboa Fashion Week brings together Fashion presentations, platforms dedicated to emerging creators and new free-entry initiatives, from conversations and workshops to exhibitions and installations, connecting authorship, production, culture and public experience through opportunities for learning and exchange.

In keeping with the priorities we set out here, this edition opens with the first MODAPORTUGAL International Conference. Promoted by CENIT, the free-entry conference brings together thought leaders from across the world at MAAT Central on 7 October to discuss authorship, European policy, technological challenges and a commitment to future generations.

Over 35 years, the choices made by Lisboa Fashion Week have produced effects that extend far beyond the circumstances in which they were first made. Investment in the renewal of the creative landscape, proximity to industry, the integration of multiple artistic disciplines, critical reflection and the creation of contexts for innovation have built an infrastructure of relationships and knowledge whose reach extends beyond any single programming decision. It is through this gradual accumulation that programming acquires cultural significance, that experience becomes heritage, and that what we do in the present begins, without our fully knowing it, to shape a future memory.

MODALISBOA PRIORITY presented by OMODA & JAECOO is born, then, from the inevitability of choosing. We do not know which of the decisions we make will reveal their true importance only with time and distance. We know what we refuse to treat as transient. And that is where we place our priority.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ disabled_on=”off|off|off” admin_label=”Welcome” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||||false|false” da_disable_devices=”off|off|off” collapsed=”off” global_colors_info=”{}” da_is_popup=”off” da_exit_intent=”off” da_has_close=”on” da_alt_close=”off” da_dark_close=”off” da_not_modal=”on” da_is_singular=”off” da_with_loader=”off” da_has_shadow=”on”][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_4,3_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”8a327be8-7492-412f-993e-855520c01073″ width=”70%” width_tablet=”85%” width_phone=”85%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” background_enable_image=”off” background_last_edited=”on|tablet” background_enable_image_tablet=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://modalisboa.pt/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/welcome_carlosmoedas.jpg” title_text=”welcome_carlosmoedas” force_fullwidth=”off” src_tablet=”https://modalisboa.pt/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/behen-648×969-upscale1.jpg” src_phone=”https://modalisboa.pt/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/behen-648×969-upscale1.jpg” src_last_edited=”off|desktop” align_tablet=”left” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|phone” admin_label=”Foto Presidente CML” _builder_version=”4.19.5″ _module_preset=”bbba922f-0723-48b4-bbed-e1276e096c40″ width=”100%” width_tablet=”50%” width_phone=”75%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Nome” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”af543a65-a510-4d5a-bd0e-f29b21297a1d” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]

CARLOS MOEDAS

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Texto” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”af543a65-a510-4d5a-bd0e-f29b21297a1d” custom_margin=”30px||0px||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]

Mayor of Lisbon

Choosing has never been more difficult. We are surrounded by possibilities. In a world where everything seems within reach, the choices we make have become a way of declaring what we value. Fashion has always carried that responsibility. Choosing a garment, a material, a form or a combination is never purely an aesthetic decision. It is an expression of identity. It says who we are and, perhaps more importantly, what we believe is worthy of our attention.

Fashion and luxury have always been closely connected. But luxury is not simply a matter of price or exclusivity. Its value can lie in what is rare: time devoted to an idea, knowledge built over generations, mastery of a craft, attention to detail and the ability to create something that cannot simply be replicated. In a world of excess, perhaps true luxury is precisely what cannot be mass-produced: a vision, a signature, a distinctive language. Something shaped by conscious choices and by work given the time it needs to mature.

It is this human dimension of creativity that matters. Fashion and Design are not simply creative industries; they are ways of thinking about and interpreting the world. They reflect our culture, connect different disciplines and give rise to new forms of expression. And they do so through a particular relationship between tradition and innovation, between what we inherit and what we choose to transform.

Lisbon has long understood the importance of this. Over more than three decades, Lisboa Fashion Week has become an essential platform for emerging talent, strengthening connections between creativity and industry while bringing Fashion, culture and the city closer together. Edition after edition, it has provided a space for new ideas, new voices and new languages to emerge. The choices we make also shape the city itself. We decide what to preserve, where to invest and what we want to pass on to future generations. A city’s heritage is not limited to what it inherits; it also includes what each generation chooses to contribute.

From 7 to 11 October, MODALISBOA PRIORITY returns to Lisbon, co-organised with Lisbon City Council, with a programme spanning different venues and bringing together Designers, industry, critical thinking, culture and the public. At a time when we are constantly encouraged to choose faster, this edition reminds us of the importance of choosing well. Of looking beyond novelty. Of recognising the value of authorship, experimentation, sustainability and continuity. Because not everything we have the means to create is worth carrying forward. A true sense of priority begins with deciding what deserves a place in the future.

Lisbon City Council is delighted to welcome Lisboa Fashion Week once again, and all those who, through Fashion and Design, continue to create, think and help shape our city.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_4,3_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”8a327be8-7492-412f-993e-855520c01073″ width=”70%” width_tablet=”85%” width_phone=”85%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_padding=”||||false|false” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” background_enable_image=”off” background_last_edited=”on|tablet” background_enable_image_tablet=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://modalisboa.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/welcome_eduarda_abbondanza.jpg” title_text=”welcome_eduarda_abbondanza” force_fullwidth=”off” src_tablet=”https://modalisboa.pt/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/behen-648×969-upscale1.jpg” src_phone=”https://modalisboa.pt/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/behen-648×969-upscale1.jpg” src_last_edited=”off|desktop” align_tablet=”left” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|tablet” admin_label=”Foto Presidente Mlx” _builder_version=”4.27.0″ _module_preset=”bbba922f-0723-48b4-bbed-e1276e096c40″ width=”100%” width_tablet=”50%” width_phone=”75%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Nome” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”af543a65-a510-4d5a-bd0e-f29b21297a1d” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]

EDUARDA ABBONDANZA

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Texto” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”af543a65-a510-4d5a-bd0e-f29b21297a1d” custom_margin=”30px||0px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]

President of Associação ModaLisboa

For 35 years, Lisboa Fashion Week has worked to give talent the conditions to emerge, grow and endure. It is a simple conviction, but one that requires investment, difficult decisions and clarity about what really matters.

Welcome to MODALISBOA PRIORITY presented by OMODA & JAECOO. As with every edition since 1991, it is co-organised with the Municipality of Lisbon, a partnership that recognises Fashion as part of the city’s cultural and economic life. Support from Turismo de Portugal’s Portugal Events programme extends that commitment, creating new opportunities for internationalisation from Lisbon and for independent Fashion to claim the place it deserves on the international stage.

Our priorities are clear. Independent Designers able to build viable careers, not simply gain visibility. A new generation with access to resources, industry and markets. Companies that recognise authorship, knowledge and experimentation as competitive strengths. Sustainability that translates into action. Innovation with purpose. Culture as an inseparable part of the value we create.

We are not interested in replacing unresolved questions with new narratives. The pace of technological change does not make it any less urgent to build economically viable models, reduce impact, preserve skills or make room for research and development. What is new matters when it moves us forward, not when it simply gives us something else to talk about.

Setting priorities is easy. Holding on to them when attention moves elsewhere, when they require investment or when results take time is much harder. That is the consistency we want to stand for: doing what needs to be done, without mistaking change for progress.

My thanks go to the Associação ModaLisboa team, the Designers and their teams, Municipality of Lisbon, Turismo de Portugal, OMODA & JAECOO, our partners and sponsors, and every professional who makes these days possible. They are the people who turn conviction into practice, day after day.

Ultimately, that is what defines a true priority.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ disabled_on=”on|on|on” admin_label=”Agradecimentos” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||||false|false” da_disable_devices=”off|off|off” disabled=”on” global_colors_info=”{}” da_is_popup=”off” da_exit_intent=”off” da_has_close=”on” da_alt_close=”off” da_dark_close=”off” da_not_modal=”on” da_is_singular=”off” da_with_loader=”off” da_has_shadow=”on”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.24.0″ _module_preset=”8a327be8-7492-412f-993e-855520c01073″ width=”70%” width_tablet=”85%” width_phone=”85%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” background_enable_image=”off” background_last_edited=”on|tablet” background_enable_image_tablet=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Agradecimentos” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”af543a65-a510-4d5a-bd0e-f29b21297a1d” header_2_text_align_tablet=”center” header_2_text_align_phone=”center” header_2_text_align_last_edited=”on|tablet” text_orientation_tablet=”center” text_orientation_phone=”center” text_orientation_last_edited=”on|desktop” global_colors_info=”{}”]

AGRADECIMENTOS

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Texto” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”af543a65-a510-4d5a-bd0e-f29b21297a1d” custom_margin=”30px||0px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”]

A ModaLisboa agradece a:

Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Eng.
