Dépaysement non-lieu

SANGUE NOVO
SUPPORTED BY SEASIDE

Kaique Felix was born in São Paulo and is currently based in Porto. A Fashion Design graduate from ESAD, he created the project dépaysement non-lieu as a critical response to structures that define who is allowed to create or belong. His practice is rooted on improvisation as method, using donated materials, reuse, and ready-made appropriation to explore decolonial themes, displacement, and symbolic disruption. He creates from the margins, where rules do not apply.

The “Programme de redistribution de la richesse pour les immigrants non-européens” collection by dépaysement non-lieu is the first iteration of an ongoing programme investigating symbolic, economic and cultural redistribution.
Inspired by migration narratives and a critique of Eurocentrism, the collection is structured in three tactical moments: entry, exploration and declaration. Through manual techniques and reclaimed materials, each piece acts as a device for critiquing the colonial system that continues to privilege certain bodies. Here, aesthetics is not a solution nor an ornament; it is a political provocation.
