COTA 0.1 is inspired by the poem “Hope is a Thing with Feathers” by Emily Dickinson, which presents hope as a constant force. The collection develops this idea through an image captured by Mateus Cunha, in which a woman moves forward with determination, and the movement of the dress reinforces a sense of continuity. The reference to Loïe Fuller emerges in the way fabric follows and amplifies the body’s gesture.
Industrial materials are integrated, such as reused seat belts, chosen for their combination of a clean appearance, softness and resistance. Defective chrome handlebars, found in the grandfather’s workshop, introduce strong lines and a structural presence within the pieces.
Photography is also a reference, positioned between the rawness of Juergen Teller’s flash and the ethereal quality found in Rinko Kawauchi’s work.
