Duarte Vaz Jorge is a young fashion designer from Lisbon. His curiosity for creative exploration led him to the António Arroio Art School, where he specialized in textiles. Later, he enrolled in a degree in Fashion and Textile Design at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas (ESART). He is currently in his second year of a Master’s program in the same area. Moreover, he has been expanding his skills in areas such as digital patterns (using CLO3D). His creations reflect an alternative, bold, and sustainable style, with a color palette dominated by black and white, which are distinctive features of his work.

TIANGOU

Inspired by Chinese shadow theater, the “Tiangou” collection is an artistic expression of the legendary Chinese entity of the same name that, according to tradition, can devour the moon, causing an intriguing lunar eclipse. This inspiration has been carefully explored through a mainly black and white fabric palette, symbolizing light and shadow.

The distorted silhouettes in the garments evoke the mysterious presence of Tiangou, providing a unique impression that stimulates the imagination. The collection captures the magic of what might be glimpsed in a dark room, for example, from a chair draped with clothes.

As “Tiangou” progresses, it reaches the point of a total eclipse, where only the silhouettes of the garments remain, and the light is no longer present. It is also worth noting the choice of sustainable textile materials, such as Piñatex, with a low environmental impact.
