7 OCTOBER. 09 AM — 5 PM
MAAT CENTRAL
Free admission, with mandatory registration HERE
European Fashion is undergoing a transformation that can no longer be understood in isolation. Rapid technological change is reshaping creative and production processes as well as business models; regulation is redefining responsibilities; new generations are seeking to establish themselves in an increasingly complex economic landscape; and the value of authorship, know-how and manufacturing heritage is gaining renewed significance as the creation and circulation of images become increasingly automated. Amid these forces, deciding what to protect, transform or develop has become a strategic question.
This is the context for the first MODAPORTUGAL International Conference, promoted by CENIT, which opens the programme of the 67th Lisboa Fashion Week on 7 October at MAAT Central. Bringing together thought leaders from different parts of the world, the conference connects creative, business, institutional and technological perspectives to examine some of the conditions that will shape the evolution and competitiveness of Fashion.
The programme explores the mechanisms needed to turn emerging talent into viable professional careers; the relationship between European policy, commitment and the implementation of better practices; the possibilities and implications of artificial intelligence and other technologies; and the strategic value of luxury, authorship, craft and know-how. Distinct questions converge in a broader reflection on how to create differentiation, preserve knowledge and ensure its transmission within an industry undergoing profound change.
9:00 AM - REGISTRATION
9:30 AM - OPENING REMARKS
10:00 AM - THE VALUE OF KNOW-HOW
Why authorship, expertise and manufacturing heritage still matter in a changing Fashion industry.
Artistry and skilled making are powerful forms of distinction, particularly in luxury, where provenance and material knowledge carry both cultural and commercial significance. At the intersection of Fashion, artistic expression and specialised production, traditional skills can become a contemporary language rather than a fixed legacy. Protecting them also means recognising their makers, raw materials and places of origin, while creating the conditions for this heritage to evolve and find renewed relevance in the market.

11:15 AM - MAKING TALENT LAST
Building the conditions for emerging creativity to become a viable professional career.
Discovery is only one moment in the much longer process of building a career. A distinctive authorial identity needs to coexist with management skills, production knowledge and economic viability, while education must prepare emerging professionals for an increasingly competitive and global market. Scouting, editorial curation and access to established networks can provide the bridge between early recognition and professional opportunity, giving talent the foundations to grow with independence and longevity.

12:30 PM - FASHION, CONSUMERISM AND SOCIETY IN TRANSITION
AI, Digital Transformation and New Business Models
Fashion is navigating rapid change. Society and consumer behaviour are shifting, while new technologies, with AI as a powerful accelerator, are expanding what is possible.
Taking a techno-optimistic perspective, Ann Claes explores how digital tools are reshaping Fashion and where they can create real value. An invitation to understand what’s possible, question what’s relevant and make smarter choices, with strategy, not technology, leading the way.
SPEAKER: Ann Claes — Co-Founder, MASJIEN
1:00 PM - NETWORKING LUNCH
2:30 PM - INTELLIGENT FUTURES
Exploring how emerging technologies are expanding the possibilities of creativity, production and connection.
From generative AI to manufacturing and community building, technological development is reshaping how ideas take form, products are made and relationships with audiences are built. As experimentation moves rapidly into real-world application, the question of how these tools are used becomes increasingly significant. Their potential lies not simply in what they can automate, but in how they can extend human capability, enable different forms of expression and transform existing processes.

Turning European ambition into meaningful change across the Fashion industry.
Regulation can set direction, but transformation ultimately depends on implementation.
