Catarina Pica is an artist and Fashion and Textile Designer based in Lisbon. She holds an MA in Textile and Fashion Design from the Swedish School of Textiles, specialising in knitwear and biomaterials, and a BA in Painting from FBAUP. She has collaborated with designers Melisa Minca and Lidija Kolovrat and was a researcher on the Metamorfoses dos Plásticos project. Her work has been presented at Dutch Design Week, Contextile, and the Textile Museum of Sweden. She is the founder of the artisanal knitwear brand PICA BIOTA.

DIÁFANA understands sustainability as the coexistence of different materials, making practices, and temporalities. It brings together materials that age, persist, transform, or disappear at different rhythms, ranging from Do-It-Yourself biomaterials to materials processed on an industrial scale. It also combines contemporary practices, such as the use of computerised machinery in textile production, with traditional practices. Its technical foundation lies in slow, artisanal production developed by the Designer, complemented by industrial materials and processes.

The collection proposes an ecology based on diversity, locality, and coexistence, without material, technical, or technological monocultures. The visual language is built around layers, transparency, floating threads, and circular forms. Ideas of presence, trace, transformation, and disappearance run throughout the collection.
