FAST TALKS
CREATIVITY, AGENCY AND SOCIAL CHANGE
8 OCTOBER. 5 PM
MUDE – DESIGN MUSEUM
Free Admisson, with mandatory registration HERE.
An industry that employs people, produces culture, influences behaviour and helps shape the collective imagination cannot separate what it does from the society in which it operates. Taking responsibility means recognising that Fashion has knowledge, skills and the capacity to apply them to real social challenges.
This range of expertise opens up multiple possibilities for action. Design and production can create opportunities for learning and inclusion; technical knowledge can equip people with professional skills; and transforming clothing can connect circularity with social action. Drawing on initiatives already working at these intersections, FAST TALKS explores what happens when Fashion turns its capabilities towards challenges beyond its own field.

VÍTOR SANCHES
BAZOFO & DENTU ZONA
Vítor Sanches was born and raised in Cova da Moura before moving abroad at a young age. While living in London, he missed the rhythms of home: speaking Creole, listening to funaná, walking through the neighbourhood’s narrow streets and seeing children playing outside. When he returned, unable to find work, he came up with the idea of creating a cultural space where everyone would feel welcome, a place to meet, exchange ideas and listen to music. In 2015, he opened Bazofo, now part of the Dentu Zona project, which also includes a screen-printing studio, a market and a wider programme of activities. Collaboration is central to his work, guided by the principle of “Djunta Mô”: together we are stronger.
