FILIGREE AND SCIENCE INTERSECT IN OLGA NORONHA’S NEW EXHIBITION

Exhibitions, Jewelry

10 December '25

The BioFiligrana® exhibition, coordinated by artist and Designer Olga Noronha, opens on December 13th at the Florbela Espanca Municipal Library, in Matosinhos. The exhibition brings together a collection of pieces that combine art, design, and science, reinterpreting bone fixation plates and other medical devices through the traditional Portuguese filigree technique.

Developed within the research project “Study of Filigree Patterns for Applications in Biomedical Jewellery”, the exhibition demonstrates how filigree can be applied to clinical objects, opening up new aesthetic and functional possibilities. The project involves a multidisciplinary team of researchers and seeks to revitalise this ancestral craft, proposing new approaches for its preservation and innovation.

Renowned for her work in the field of medical jewellery, Olga Noronha presents a perspective that challenges the boundaries between body, technology and ornamentation, bringing audiences closer to the scientific and poetic dimensions of these objects.

The exhibition runs until 31 January 2026, with free admission. More information about the project is available at www.biofiligree.com
