EUROPEAN FASHION ALLIANCE

Associação ModaLisboa is a founding member of the European Fashion Alliance (EFA), the first transnational alliance of European Fashion institutions, bringing together Fashion Councils, Research and Education institutions, and some of Europe’s leading Fashion Weeks, including Paris, Milan and London.

Founded in Frankfurt in June 2022, the EFA operates as a platform for European coordination and representation dedicated to accelerating Fashion’s transition towards more sustainable, innovative, inclusive and socially responsible models. At the same time, it plays an active role alongside European institutions in Brussels, contributing to the definition of strategies and public policies for the future of the sector.

The EFA works towards a carbon-neutral textile industry built on principles of circularity and environmental and social responsibility, while simultaneously promoting a vision of Fashion grounded in quality, durability, innovation and the valorisation of creativity, authorship and European artisanal heritage.

STRATEGIC PILLARS

The EFA’s activity is structured around four main pillars — Sustainability, Education, Policy and Innovation — which guide the definition of shared strategies for the sector until 2027.

Among the priorities defined by the EFA are:

– the definition of an ethical, social and sustainable code of conduct for EFA members and, by extension, for the Fashion industry;
– the creation of a new European Green Deal for Fashion, based on circular ecosystems, social responsibility, data sharing and common measurement systems;
– the development of training programmes in Sustainability, Technology and social responsibility aimed at different agents within the sector;
– the empowerment of new generations as central agents in the digital, circular and social transition of the Fashion industry.

The EFA also advocates for initiatives such as the Ecodesign Regulation and the Digital Product Passport, while recognising creativity, innovation and artisanal tradition as fundamental pillars of European Fashion.

MODALISBOA’S ROLE

As a founding member of the European Fashion Alliance, Associação ModaLisboa participates in the dissemination and implementation of European initiatives related to the transformation of the sector, connecting Portuguese Designers, industry and institutions with the new political, legislative and strategic directions shaping European Fashion.

ModaLisboa’s participation in the EFA also contributes to strengthening the relationship between the national Fashion ecosystem and the transformation processes currently taking place across Europe, bringing Portuguese Designers, industry and institutions closer to international networks of knowledge, collaboration and strategic definition.

Within this context, ModaLisboa is part of a broader European dynamic of representation, awareness-building and public policy development for the future of the Fashion industry.

ModaLisboa participates in initiatives such as:

THE STATUS OF EUROPEAN FASHION
A European survey dedicated to identifying strategies capable of guiding the Fashion industry towards more sustainable and inclusive models.

CLIMATE ADAPTATION IN THE FASHION SECTOR
(JUST FASHION – Horizon Europe)
A project analysing the impact of the climate crisis on production systems and contributing to the development of adaptation strategies for the Fashion industry within the European context.

REPORT ON THE NEEDS OF THE EUROPEAN CREATIVITY-DRIVEN FASHION INDUSTRY 2025

ModaLisboa also participated in the dissemination of the Report on the Needs of the European Creativity-Driven Fashion Industry 2025, a study focused on the challenges and opportunities facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Europe’s creative sector.

Organised around seven thematic areas — Sustainability; Innovation and Digitalisation; Education and Skills; Communication and Distribution; Responsible Consumption; Systemic Support and Fair Competition Conditions; Strengthening the Value Chain — the report presents 63 recommendations addressed to European Union institutions in order to reinforce the sustainability, innovation and competitiveness of the Fashion industry.

These recommendations include:
