FashionKIC
FashionKIC is a project co-funded by the European Union that seeks to accelerate the sustainable and digital transition of the Fashion system through the creation of a transnational community for knowledge and innovation. Bringing together partners from Greece, Portugal, Spain, Romania and Denmark, the project connects creation, technology, sustainability, research, education and regional development within a collaborative structure focused on new ways of producing, learning and circulating knowledge. The official platform has now been launched and will continue to evolve over time.
The project emerges within a moment of deep reconfiguration of the European Fashion system. Environmental pressure, technological acceleration and the growing need for productive adaptation are simultaneously reshaping the ways Fashion is created, produced, distributed and taught. Yet many initiatives dedicated to innovation remain fragmented across sectors, geographies and fields of expertise, limiting the development of structural responses capable of matching the complexity of contemporary transformation.
FashionKIC is grounded in the belief that the ecological and digital transition of Fashion requires continuous collaborative infrastructures capable of connecting critical thinking, experimentation and practical implementation. Sustainability, circularity and technological innovation are understood as interdependent processes that cut across creation, industry, research, education and territory, calling for new relationships between knowledge, production and collective practice.
As a member of the consortium, Associação ModaLisboa contributes to the project through its experience in building platforms that connect Designers, industry, cultural institutions, education and research. ModaLisboa’s role focuses on activating collaborative networks, mediating between different creative ecosystems and developing programmes capable of bringing innovation, creation and implementation closer together within the European context.
Over the course of two years, FashionKIC will develop:
– acceleration programmes dedicated to sustainable Fashion projects;
– regional innovation hubs in Greece, Portugal, Spain and Romania;
– training programmes focused on sustainability, digital skills and productive adaptation;
– digital platforms and artificial intelligence tools designed for learning, experimentation and the circulation of knowledge;
– collaborative networks connecting SMEs, startups, creative professionals, researchers and institutions.
What distinguishes FashionKIC is the way it brings together education, technology, acceleration, research and regional development within the same working infrastructure. Rather than operating through isolated initiatives, the project proposes an ongoing model of transnational cooperation capable of connecting specialised knowledge, production and structural transformation.
FashionKIC ultimately seeks to contribute to a more distributed, resilient and connected European ecology of innovation in Fashion, creating space for collaborative practices capable of responding to the speed, complexity and systemic scale of the sector’s contemporary transformation.
