PLURAL DESIGN FOR A SINGULAR CITY

A growing Lisbon, with plural voices and visions, is being strategically designed by boosting its Creative Industries. HOST: RUI MARIA PÊGO

35 years old. 16 of them spent between the Radio, Theater and Television. Graduated in History from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Master in Fine Arts in Professional Acting from Bristol Old Vic Theater School (UK), he is the author of "Filho da Mãe", a satirical series that premiered on Canal Q in 2015. He has already hosted shows on the three main Portuguese TV channels and invented many others on several radio stations (Radar, Sudoeste, Mega Hits), and is currently on Rádio Comercial, where he conducts the interview program/podcast "Debaixo da Língua", and "TNT- Todos no Top". He closed 2023 in a production for BBC Radio Three about the poet Fernando Pessoa, "All I Was When I Wasn't Anyone", after being one of four Portuguese artists in "École des Maîtres" by French-Argentine director Marcial di Fonzo Bo, and one of the actors chosen for edition number 8 of "Passaporte Lisboa", an initiative by the Portuguese Cinema Academy.
Passionate about fashion, he was considered Person of the Year for ILGA Portugal in 2017 and, in 2018, on the cover of GQ Portugal magazine.
After "Water Party", a dystopian theater show created by Mimi Collins in London, you will see him next with the premieres of the RTP series "Erro 404", the film "Prisma" by Sónia Balacó and Zé Bernardino, and also the fourth season from "Im-pertinente", the podcast from Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos, where Rui Maria Pêgo is paired with neuroscientist Luísa Lopes to unravel the mysteries of the brain.
The first time Rui went to ModaLisboa he was fifteen years old, and since then he has never stopped coming back.

BÁRBARA COUTINHO | MUDE - MUSEU DO DESIGN

Bárbara Coutinho is a PhD in Architecture from the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, Master in History of Contemporary Art and Bachelor in History, specializing in History of Art, from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Founding director and programmer of MUDE – Museu do Design since 2006, she is the author of the museum's museological program and co-author of the architectural concept for the requalification project of the museum building.
Invited assistant professor (2006-2021) and invited associate professor (since 2021) at the Instituto Superior Técnico and researcher at CITUA – Center for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism and Architecture (IST-UL). Co-chair of the International Specialist Committee/Interior Design (Docomomo International) and founding member of the ID-Iberoamérica diseña Association and Docomomo Portugal. From 1998 to 2006, she was the coordinator of the Educational Service of the Exhibition Centre and of the training programme in Art, Architecture and Design of the Fundação Centro Cultural de Belém. She works in the areas of Museology, Architecture, Design, Curatorship and Education, with a particular interest in the History of Material Culture and the theory and practice of Design in Portugal.

INÊS COTTINELLI | ATELIER DACIANO DA COSTA

Inês Cottinelli was born in Lisbon in 1963. Since 2013, she has been Managing Partner and CEO of the Daciano da Costa studio. She has developed her professional career with the main objective of reinforcing the importance of design culture through the communication and promotion of her father’s work, Daciano da Costa, a key figure in the national landscape, with a particular interest in the history of material culture and the theory and practice of design in Portugal.
She places a particular emphasis on the history and narrative of the pieces and objects from various works, believing that through their re-editions, the history of Portuguese design is extended and rewritten.
As a professional landscape architect, Inês Cottinelli has held various other professional roles. She was an invited assistant at Universidade Lusíada in Lisbon. She also joined the Expo 98 team at Parque das Nações, contributing to the construction of one of the largest bowling centers in Europe, BIL – Bowling Internacional de Lisboa. Additionally, she was invited to serve as the official Coordinator for Euro 2004 and other major events in Lisbon.

JOANA ASTOLFI | STUDIO ASTOLFI

Joana Astolfi is an architect, artist and designer who draws visual inspiration from a broad universe of found objects and artefacts with a particular focus on memory and narrative. She treats space like a living thing — an active player in human drama. Astolfi completed a bachelor’s degree in Architecture in England. She lived and worked for 12 years outside her native Portugal, including extended forays in London, Italy, Munich, and Los Angeles. During two years in Venice, she was part of the team at FABRICA Creative Research Centre. Joana founded Studio Astolfi in 2009, which now comprises a team of 20 collaborators (architects, designers, artisans, sculptors and artists), focusing on interior design, exhibition design, window displays, scenography, art direction and art installations. Over the years, Studio Astolfi has received a series of awards, including ‘Best Visual Merchandising’ by Monocle Design Awards 2021 and ‘Best Luxury Interior Design Studio in Portugal’ by Luxury Lifestyle Awards 2020. Studio Astolfi’s client list includes Hermès, Ritz Hotel, Graham’s, L’Oreal, Torel Hotels Group, José Avillez Group, Claus Porto, André Ópticas, De La Espada, São Lourenço do Barrocal, CUF, Village Underground, NOS, Sonae, Costa Terra, Lisbon Oceanarium and Viúva Lamego, in addition to private clients for whom Studio Astolfi also creates bespoke spaces and art installations.
