MUDE - DESIGN MUSEUM. EXCLUSIVE TO THE DESIGNER’S AND ARTIST’S GUESTS.

AD HOC was first presented in New York at the invitation of Studio2M, as part of the inaugural exhibition of the gallery founded by Abby Caulkins in 2026. French artist Marie Hazard and Portuguese designer Constança Entrudo were invited to develop a body of work together for Studio2M’s historic SoHo loft, conceived as both a workshop and exhibition space. At Lisboa Fashion Week, AD HOC takes on a new presentation at MUDE - Design Museum, while remaining anchored in the materials and references they share and in a desire to bring art and fashion together, questioning the hierarchies traditionally established between the two disciplines.

Hazard and Entrudo met while studying Textile Design at Central Saint Martins. A decade of friendship and creative exchange has accompanied the development of their respective practices, creating the conditions for a collaboration in which art and fashion are considered equally. AD HOC therefore belongs to neither artist nor designer, Hazard nor Entrudo, but to the work they create together.

Though their practices appear distinct, both explore weaving as a language and the intersection of craft and technology. Hazard’s tactile compositions meet Entrudo’s textile practice in a shared consideration of the time required to produce a textile and how that temporal register has shifted with the introduction of new technologies.

Hazard has developed a distinctive approach to weaving that blends painting, photography and language. Her textiles have a poetic and narrative quality that has more recently expanded into immersive installations combining weaving, beading and crochet. Entrudo pioneered her signature “(un)woven” technique at Central Saint Martins, fusing recycled yarns through the precise application of heat, and has continued to create textiles and garments that question the limits of traditional weaving practices. Her conceptual presentations blur the boundaries between fashion show and performance.

AD HOC realises a long-held desire for Hazard and Entrudo to collaborate, while its name is also shaped by the history of the space where the project began. Studio2M was formerly the live-work loft of sculptor Jackie Winsor, represented by Paula Cooper Gallery. When they first began working together in the space, they came across a 1992 ArtNews interview in which Winsor discussed her first encounter with an artists’ group called “Ad Hoc”. Founded in the 1970s, the Ad Hoc Committee of Women Artists regularly brought together more than 100 women in SoHo in response to the underrepresentation of women artists in the Whitney Biennial. The article provided a point of connection between two generations.

AD HOC seeks to create a space for exchange between disciplines and to question their currency in the contemporary world through the connections between fabric, space and the body. The scale of the human form remains a shared reference and an equalising force between art and craft.

The production itself extends this meeting of practices, processes and geographies. Handwoven textiles and artworks are produced at Marie Hazard’s studio in Paris, while Constança Entrudo’s signature “(un)woven” textiles are handcrafted at her Lisbon studio. Denim, knitwear and footwear are developed with long-standing manufacturing partners in Northern Portugal, while buttons and accessories are produced in Portugal.
