PÁTIO DA GALÉ. ACCESS BY INVITATION.
POINT SUR POINT
This collection begins with the idea of building slowly, through the accumulation of small elements. Pointillism, particularly Georges Seurat’s A Bathing Place, Asnières and A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, became an important reference for the way an image is constructed through the repetition of countless points of colour. The waterside landscapes depicted in these works extend into the collection through drawings of boats and their reflections, also developed through points and the repetition of gesture.
This relationship between drawing and construction runs throughout the collection. Just as points accumulate to form an image, flowers are constructed and individually applied by hand, gradually transforming the surface of the fabric. At other moments, this relationship is reversed through trompe-l’œil: ruffles, bows, pleats and even jewellery are drawn onto the garments, creating volume through representation alone.
Between what is drawn and what is physically constructed, the collection plays with different ways of creating an image, always through detail, repetition and time, point by point, layer by layer.
