The project Toque Amargo, created in 2023 by Designers Julia Lopes and Matilde Ramos — who crossed paths on the Fashion Design course at Modatex Porto — has the focus on creating handmade clothing.

Touch Amargo is a way of knowing and embracing the Designers experiences and bitternesses, in a textile and visual language. It is the translation of the emotions into textures and the exchange of the senses of day-to-day life, objects, and memories.

THE FIRST TASTE

The collection “The First Taste” is shaped by the sensory details that the Designers experienced during their first experiences and bitternesses.

Júlia Lopes and Matilde Ramos found inspiration in certain fruits, scents, textures of carpets and flowers, lights and shadows of everyday life. Everything they did and didn’t do, everything they grew up seeing and hearing, smelling and touching, tasting.

They reflected on their roots and customs that disappear as heartbreak. It’s the reclaim and cherish of traditional handmade techniques, reimagining materials that have been passed down to them.

The collection envisions flavor through crochet textures and knitting, yarns and beads, which reflect their memories, like when we smell a familiar scent and are transported to a certain time in our lives.
