OPEN CALL: WORKSTATION NEW MEDIA

ModaLisboa, Workstation New Media

26 July '24

The Associação ModaLisboa’s project with the support of the República Portuguesa — Cultura / Direção Geral das Artes is back for a new edition.

New media strengthened the dilution of the formal boundaries of artistic practice, accelerating a hybridization of territories of contemporary thought and also of the material concretization of Fashion. It is in this convergence that WORKSTATION NEW MEDIA is positioned: a platform for experimentation, exposure and attracting new talent that is now starting its second edition with an open call.

ModaLisboa is looking for people who explore new media applied to Fashion, with an artistic, innovative and sustainable aspect. The contest covers any new media format with a Fashion language — Digital Fashion, NFT (non-fungible token), 3D (Construction of objects, avatars, environments) or Human Interaction in virtual spaces, such as Gaming, Actions or Extended Reality Applications (Virtual/Augmented/Mixed) — and the applications are open until September 5, 2024.

The jury, composed of Eduarda Abbondanza, Manuel Bogalheiro and ZABRA, will evaluate the projects taking into account criteria such as conceptual relevance, technological innovation, promotion of intercultural dialogue and inclusion of one or more Sustainable Development Goals, as a response to the climate crisis. The finalists will be part of the WORKSTATION NEW MEDIA exhibition, curated by ZABRA, where the winning project of the two thousand euro prize will be announced. The complete regulation — in writing, and in Portuguese Sign Language, with consultancy from Acesso Cultura — can be consulted here.

The free entry exhibition takes place in parallel with the 63rd Lisboa Fashion Week, from October 9th to 13th. In addition to the open call projects, WORKSTATION NEW MEDIA continues to develop mediation work for this growing creative community, presenting works by Carincur, João Pedro Fonseca and Gonçalo Guiomar; Rodrigo Gomes; and Tupac Martir (Satore Studio). More information about the guest artists, here.

In the previous edition, in October 2023, WORKSTATION NEW MEDIA presented works by paatiff, Rudolfo Quintas and ZABRA, at Carpintarias de São Lázaro, in an exhibition curated by Miguel Flor that awarded S4RA’s project.
